Patient Details
This 22-year-old patient presented with breast hypoplasia and a Type 2 tuberous breast deformity. She desired a noticeable increase in breast volume while maintaining a natural, proportional appearance that complemented her body.
During her breast augmentation consultation, we carefully evaluated her breast anatomy, degree of constriction, nipple-to-inframammary fold distance, existing asymmetry, and overall chest proportions. Because tuberous breasts have unique anatomical characteristics, achieving the desired result required more than simply selecting breast implants.
Surgical Approach
Her customized breast augmentation included:
• Bilateral breast augmentation with silicone implants
• Subfascial implant placement through an inframammary fold incision
• Radial scoring of the constricted breast tissue to help release the tight lower breast and improve shape
• Correction of the nipple-to-inframammary fold distance to create improved lower-pole expansion and breast proportions
Breast Implants
Right breast: Mentor MemoryGel BOOST Smooth Moderate High Profile — 355 cc
Left breast: Mentor MemoryGel BOOST Smooth Moderate High Profile — 330 cc
Different implant volumes were selected to help address the patient's pre-existing breast asymmetry and create a more balanced appearance.
Why Tuberous Breast Augmentation Requires a Customized Approach
Breast augmentation for patients with a tuberous or constricted breast deformity involves more than choosing an implant size. The underlying breast anatomy, constricted tissue, breast fold position, asymmetry, and implant selection all need to be considered when developing the surgical plan.
This case demonstrates how a customized approach combining silicone breast implants, subfascial breast augmentation, tissue release, and correction of the inframammary fold can address both breast volume and shape.
